Jono has been developing server side applications for nearly 20 years, with a number of different languages. Moved to Canada from New Zealand in 2010 to help architect the next generation of server side development, he’s now part of the Perfect team bringing Swift to the server. In his spare time he’s a session musician, sound engineer, gamer, and loves writing API’s for all sorts of obscure things.
A practical demonstration of how to create a server side application in everyone’s favourite language. You will be amongst the first in the world to see some brand new tools in action that make getting started in Server Side Swift a snap, leaving you to do the fun stuff - making your app work.
Build an API for your front end game engine! Together we will build a backend that logs a player in, stores individual & high scores, delivers “in game news” items, and build an administration reporting page. Learn how to build your own Swift Package Module for code re-use, and how to deploy your code to a server.
Got an idea for a great macOS or iOS app, but you need a backend API to make it work?
In this session we’ll see how easy it is to get up and running with a backend server side API in a language you’re already familiar with, and even use the same backend API to serve data to an iOS app and a web frontend.
Jono will discuss practical design-led thinking approaches to creating scalable and agile server-side API’s for your mobile applications, from initial planning through to execution and documentation. While targeted at Swift as the language, you’ll be able to apply these techniques to creating API’s in almost any server-side language.
